Welcome to the Missouri Chapter of the National Association of Certified Home Inspectors

This is our new site which will be the main source for members of our chapter to stay up-to-date on events in Missouri that affect them as home inspectors.

Early in 2007, the Missouri Association of Realtors attempted to push through legislation that would have created a licensing board that they could control.   A collective effort of home inspectors  - and others understanding the importance of keeping real estate salesmen out of the home inspection process - stopped the bill from becoming law.  The bill's sponsor, Mike Parson of Bolivar, MO, promises to make this a "priority" in 2008.

Mr. Parson explained to people who asked him why he felt such a bill was necessary that, due to his "own personal experience" when his daughter bought a house and the home inspector "missed" the fact that the washing machine did not work properly, led him to write a bill.

The fact that home inspectors in Missouri (and in virtually all licensed states) inspect houses and their systems --- and not appliances --- did not stop Mr. Parson.

Fortunately, a more level headed Missouri congress did.  The bill never left committee.

As ridiculous as the basis for Mr. Parson's involvement was, it did not stop the Missouri Association of Realtors from trying to exploit his lack of knowledge and experience on this topic for their own personal gain...as they fought for the bill's passage.

As a chapter, we will continue our yearly tradition of providing relevant and important training opportunities to Missouri home inspectors as well as continuing to fight the agenda of those who disagree with our position that the home inspector should not answer to commissioned real estate salesmen, brokers or anyone else who stands to gain from the sale of the homes we inspect.

We will fight to keep those who gain, financially, from the sale of the home from influencing the way we do our work.

Missouri home inspectors, particularly members of this chapter,  are committed and resolved to provide accurate and unbiased reports that reflect the true condition of the home and its systems to the people who hire us.
